Position: Librarian 3 – Branch Manager
Full time: 35 Hours per Week
Part time 28 Hours per Week
Compensation: $31.55 hourly minimum
The Gloucester County Library System is seeking a creative, innovative, service-oriented professional librarian, each with a clear vision of dynamic 21st century library programs and services, to manage all aspects of the GCLS Glassboro Library, including programs, collections, services, and staff. The position will be located at the GCLS Glassboro, 101 Rowan Boulevard, Glassboro NJ 08028. This is a NJ Civil Service position.
The full-time (35 hours per week) position. Hours for this position include four daytime hours (9:30-5), and one night (1:30-9) per week.
The part-time (28 hours per week) position. Hours for this position include three daytime hours (9:30-5), and one night (1:30-9) per week.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Very strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills are required. The successful candidate must be a team player who is able to positively interact with coworkers and the public. Excellent communication, leadership, project management and organizational skills are a must.
The position requires a Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and possession of a valid license as a Professional Librarian in the State of NJ, issued by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Thomas Edison State College. A minimum of two years of experience as a professional librarian is required. Supervisory experience is preferred.
Full Time Benefit Package:
State Health benefit package includes family medical, dental, vision and prescription insurance. Five (5) personal days annually. Twelve (12) vacation days annually. Fifteen (15) sick days annually. Four (4) bereavement days annually. State PERS pension plan.
Part Time Benefit Package: 60 hours vacation annually. 84 hours of sick annually. Four (4) bereavement days annually. DCRP plan.
The successful candidate will:
- Be responsible GCLS Glassboro Branch building operations and designated budget appropriations.
- Train and supervise branch staff, manage staff schedules, conduct annual performance reviews, and prepare monthly narrative and statistical reports.
- Oversee branch collection development and budget for the adult, juvenile and young adult fiction and nonfiction collections in all formats. Select branch library material to meet the diverse needs of the community and to keep the collection current. Supervise library material selection done by other branch staff.
- Develop and implement a variety of innovative, regularly scheduled, and special event branch programming. Include adult, youth and pre-school programming to meet the needs of the community. Schedule library sponsored programs (book discussion groups, etc.)
- Provide outreach to local schools and develop partnerships with the educational community.
- Speak to community groups or organizations to expand community awareness of branch services and to provide enhanced program opportunities.
- Serve on GCLS committees and committees of library-and community-related organizations whose efforts align with the GCLS’s mission.
- Serve as a member of the GCLS Management Team and the GCLS Disaster Response Team.
- Provide professional reference, reader’s advisory and technology assistance to the public. Respond to the needs of patrons of all ages in an efficient, thorough and welcoming manner.
- Expand professional knowledge by participation in regional, statewide and/or national library organizations/associations.
- Embrace new and emerging technology through exploration and self-directed learning.
Experience with SirsiDynix ILS, Envisionware PC Reservation system, Library Market calendar/meeting room reservation, Bibliotheca self-check system, Google Apps and Microsoft Office Suite is desirable.
The successful candidate will have the ability to accurately perform a considerable volume of duties, and to handle multiple activities and a variety of assignments. The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to creatively resolve issues when necessary.
Job duties require the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and sufficient visual discrimination to be able to read spine labels. The position may require travel between GCLS Branch libraries. A valid NJ Driver’s License is required.
Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment physical and a criminal background check.
The position requires residency in the State of New Jersey. If the successful applicant is not a New Jersey resident, he or she must become a bona fide New Jersey resident within one year.

Position: Librarian 1/Library Associate – Youth Services
Location: GCLS Mullica Hill Library
Part Time: 20 – 25 hours per week
Compensation: $27.05 per hour minimum for Librarian 1
$21.03 per hour minimum for Library Associate
The Gloucester County Library System is seeking an energetic, service-oriented professional librarian or student enrolled in a library program, who is a youth-services generalist, to serve at the GCLS Mullica Hill Library. The successful candidate will provide high-quality programming, collection development, and information services to the community. GCLS seeks a youth services librarian with a passion for youth services and excellent customer service and communication skills.
This is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week) position. The position will be located at the GCLS Mullica Hill Library 389 Wolfert Station Road Mullica Hill, NJ 08062. Hours include daytime hours, (1) night per week, and (1) Saturday per month. This is a NJ Civil Service position.
Qualifications/Requirements:
The position requires a Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Students enrolled in an ALA accredited MLS program, who are at least half way through the program will also be considered for a Library Associate title, and are encouraged to apply. The possession of a valid license as a Professional Librarian in the State of NJ, issued by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Thomas Edison State College is required for those with an MLS degree. A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a public library setting is preferred. Grant writing is a plus.

- Provide professional reference and reader’s advisory service.
- Provide outreach to local schools and build partnerships with the educational community.
- Be responsible for building operations when required.
- Assist customers using public computers and digital services.
- Embrace new and emerging technology through exploration and self-directed learning.
- Attend outreach events and programs as schedule allows.
- Assist the Youth Services Department with the planning, preparation, and execution of the system wide programming initiatives (Summer Reading Program, Maker’s Day, etc.).
- Work within the Youth Services print, nonprint and program budget lines.
- Participate in professional development opportunities such as conference, seminars, committees, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
